Internationally renowned singer/songwriter Will Young will join Jonny Labey (Winner of ITV's Dance Dance Dance) and Zizi Strallen in leading the cast of Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom The Musical when the show opens on Friday 16th March 2018 at the Piccadilly Theatre in London's West End.
Based on the 1992 multi-award-winning film of Baz Luhrmann's acclaimed Red Curtain Trilogy, Strictly Ballroom The Musical is an uplifting story filled with a kaleidoscope of colour and fun.
The Uplifting tale follows maverick championship ballroom dancer Scott as he defies all the rules of the competition to follow his heart. Teaming up with left-footed partner Fran, the pair set out to compete and win the legendary Pan Pacific Championship his way. As their routines flourish, their love blossoms and together they triumph in bringing down the sequin clad regime of the Dance Federation.
Strictly Ballroom The Musical will feature many of the iconic films musical hitsincluding Love is in the Air, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps and Time After Time.
Will Young will play the new role of bandleader, Wally Strand. After winning the 2001 inaugural series of the ITV talent contest Pop Idol, he has become one of the UK’s most popular and successful music artists. Making his West End stage debut in the production of Cabaret, Will was awarded the What's on Stage award for London Newcomer of the Yearand was also nominated for the 2013 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
Jonny Labey makes his West End debut in the leading role of Scott Hastings, the maverick ballroom dancer torn between his passion and his pride. Jonny won the ITV show Dance Dance Dance and is well known for playing the role of Paul Coker in EastEnders.
Zizi Strallen takes on the role of Fran, the fledgling dancer who partners with Scott and catches his eye following his fall from grace. Having played the lead role in Mary Poppins, her West End credits include Follies, Cats, Dirty Dancing, Hairspray and Chicago.
The cast also includes Michelle Bishop (Sunset Boulevard), Ivan De Freitas (Jesus Christ Superstar), Gabriela Garcia (In The Heights), Charlotte Gooch (Dirty Dancing), Richard Grieve (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Liam Marcellino (Cabaret), Stephen Matthews (The Lion King), Fernando Mira (ENO), Eve Polycarpou (In The Heights), Lauren Stroud (Top Hat) and Gary Watson (Jersey Boys).
The doors will open to the glamorous world of Strictly Ballroom The Musical from March 2018 at the Piccadilly Theatre in London's West End.
